Jessica’s Areas of Focus
Taxes
Taxes must be closely reviewed to protect residents from unnecessary financial burdens. I will closely evaluate and streamline our government’s activities, to ensure that every dollar is used effectively. I will implement a more transparent approach to government spending that promotes fiscal responsibility, and long-term community stability.
Below are the six core issues that I will focus on during my tenure as a council member
Transparency
Our town needs a government that listens before it acts and keeps residents informed. I will provide clear explanations of council decisions, and increase public awareness before measures are taken to vote — so everyone has the opportunity to be included in the decisions that shape our town’s future.
Identity
I will preserve the character, safety, and natural beauty of our community. We need to make smart decisions about the growth of our town to ensure we retain the charm that makes Ruston unique, My areas of focus will be protecting our open spaces, and investing in the things that make our town a great place to live — now and for the next generation.
Safety
With crime rates rising across Washington, it’s more important than ever to strengthen our fire and police services. A safe community starts with a proactive local government that invests in public safety and ensures our first responders have the resources they need. By committing to strong, responsive emergency services, we can keep Ruston a secure and welcoming place for all residents.
Community-Building
Local government plays a vital role in bringing people together and strengthening the fabric of our community. I will support neighborhood initiatives, public spaces, and relevant events, to foster connection, pride, and resilience in Ruston. I believe that a government that listens, engages, and invests in community-building lays the foundation for a vibrant and united city.
Modernization
Our town needs resources that actually work for the people who live here. I’ll push for modern, mobile-friendly updates to our town’s website so residents can easily find meeting agendas, town rules, and project updates — without digging through outdated PDFs or confusing web pages. Government should be clear, not a scavenger hunt.
